Have any plots you want Bailey a part of? Leave a note here and we'll plot something. Use this post for:
  • Any siren related plots, either general siren mayhem or something with selkie lore.
  • Any magic related plots.
  • Any adventures you might want Bailey a part of.
  • If you want to use Bailey and his musical abilities for anything.
  • Any relationships you might want to establish with Bailey, whether it be friendship, romantic, nemesis, or otherwise.
  • Anything else you might think of!
warmeryouth: (Fuck no)
Bailey's beginning to feel overwhelmed, with the amount of work he's putting into his job at Siren Cove Middle School. He has the winter concert to think of, even though it's only October. He has several angry parents on his case for letting his students listen to a bit of Les Miserables, even though he made sure it was a song without curse words or overly adult themes; and the cherry on top of the pie (or however that metaphor goes), of course, is one Brian Darling, son of an executive vice president currently throwing a tantrum over the failing grade he received on his music theory test, with his dear father stomping his foot alongside him.

So now, as Bailey walks home in the growing dark from school, his head aches and he wants nothing more than to curl up with a bottle of Jack Daniels and some trashy reality television to take his mind off things. But he has papers to grade. And a Skype session with his sister to keep.

He lives in one of the worse off neighborhoods in town, but that fact never bothers him. Good people live there, and Bailey considers himself lucky to know them. So he isn't paying much attention when the man, dressed like he's come straight from the set of Sons of Anarchy, chains, tattoos, and all, falls into step behind him; he's concentrating on trying to will away his headache.

"Give me your wallet, you scrawny piece of shit," a low voice hisses in his left ear before Bailey can even so much as respond. He tenses immediately, cursing internally. It's times like this that he wishes he had more use with his powers of influence.

"And what if I don't?" It's stupid as shit to talk back to the jerk, but Bailey's a New Yorker at heart, and frankly, after the day he's had, he doesn't have it in him to be polite.

"I'll give you points for trying," the man, whose shaggy, blonde hair falls in front of his ice colored eyes like a torn up carpet, flashes him a devil's grin before Bailey feels a sudden, sharp pain in his left side.

"Fuck," he hisses, making to clutch at the new knife wound as the man kicks him to the pavement, reaching into his pocket to grab his wallet before stabbing him once more for good measure.

All Bailey can do is bleed and groan into the sidewalk.

Find Bailey on the ground in between his apartment and the Siren Cove Middle School, bleeding from his wounds. The attacker is just some vague NPC who can totally be used for other plots if you have a mind to. Bailey could do with some help, though!
warmeryouth: (Serious)
Bailey, much to the dismay of both his mother and his sister, has always been a morning person. No matter how late he crawls into bed, he finds himself up as soon as even an inkling of sun sneaks its way through his window. He's never minded, besides; the early morning hours prove something of a holy hour, during which he finds himself blessed with tides of inspiration.

He watches the tides this morning, standing at the very edge of the boardwalk, the sun just beginning its climb in the sky. The salty air bristles his skin and his lungs as he breathes it in; guitar strapped around his shoulder, he strums on the instrument a bit, letting the quiet melody blend with the cry of seagulls and the fervor of the waves as they rush onto shore. For once, he pours his siren abilities into his playing, to add to the lilting quality of the song as the lyrics start to from in his head.

He sings them as they come to him, the words flickering out into the world like the wings of uncertain sparrows. This is his calling in life, he knows. And not just because of his siren abilities. Music lives in his blood, and he relishes the beauty of it as it unfurls in his veins.

Siren Cove is where he's meant to be, he realizes, as his fingers stir more fervently on his instrument and his song takes flight to greater heights. There is magic to this place beyond that of sirens and witches; a magic only music can really translate.

So in the early morning hours, he stands. And he sings.

In the wake of the destruction of the beach, Bailey's tended to stick to the boardwalk. There's a light breeze running through the air as he meanders between shops, taking in the atmosphere and enjoying the relative calm before school starting next week. Jesus, he can't believe he's going to be a teacher. But genuine delight floats throughout him like sea foam, alongside the nervousness; this is one of his many dreams, and he's achieving it.

He has his iPod in as he walks, hands stuffed in the pockets of his jeans, and he's singing out loud to himself, along to one of his favorite songs. Perhaps, as the blush in his face might suggest, he is thinking of a certain Irish woman with a gift for clay as he walks; the spring in his step also suggests so, as he moves in time with the melody of the song. Sure, people give him funny looks as he passes by, but he doesn't let that bother him.

As he sings, he does indulge in one aspect of his powers a bit: he exudes cheer and good-will through his voice, and so, while those who encounter him initially stare at him as though he'd grown an extra head, after a few moments, they, too, find themselves smiling and feeling as though at least some of the burdens on their hearts have been lifted.

OOC: Find Bailey on the boardwalk, singing to himself and bringing general good cheer to those who pass him by. Feel free to have your character affected or not as you see fit; a great time to meet him, he's in a great mood!
warmeryouth: (Swimming)
Bailey loves Siren Cove mostly for the access to the water. He doesn't have to try nearly as hard to hide his clothes on the beach or maneuver in between people to change into his siren form, that of a seal. He can jump right in the water and lose himself to the tides, frolicking around and avoiding potential predators. He particularly enjoys jumping over the waves, rolling around and letting his belly flop onto the water. In these moments, the ones where he doesn't have to think, he finds the kind of freedom he could only dream about in New York. Here, there is no pack to belong to; he can keep to himself and immerse himself in his powers without anyone knowing the better. A potentially dangerous situation, but that only really adds to the thrill of it, for Bailey.

It's pretty early in the morning when he begins his swim today; he spends about two hours in the water, losing himself to his seal form. When he finally crawls onto the shore, the crisp air makes him think it's around seven in the morning, the latest he can ever sleep when he allows himself to sleep in.

He glances around quickly, to make sure he's alone on his section of the beach, before changing back to his very naked human self. He jogs over to beneath the pier, where he's hidden his clothes. He changes into everything but his shirt when he feels the weight of another's gaze upon him.

"Oh, damn, I'm sorry," he begins to explain as he turns around. "I didn't think anyone else would be around this time of day."

[OOC: Feel free to have witnessed Bailey transform into/back from his seal form, to have watched him swim for two hours, or to just catch him half-naked under the docks. And yes, this icon is very necessary. ;)]

Hello! It seems there was some confusion about Bailey's heritage, so I just wanted to clarify/retcon a bit: he's a Siren, modeled after the Selkie folklore, but not an actual Selkie. However, his family and the Siren group in his hometown use Selkies as their family/group crest, and they refer to each other as such. Again, Bailey is just a Siren, just based on Selkie lore. His water form is still a seal, and his other powers otherwise remain in tact. If you guys have any questions about Bailey or any of my characters, please let me know.

Bailey lives near the school district, where he works as a music teacher at Siren Cove Middle School, in the poorer area of town. He's used to small spaces, as he grew up in a small apartment in New York, sharing a room with his twin sister, Adelaide.

Hello, you've reached Bailey. Sing me a sea shanty, or a voice message, if you're feeling less enthused.

OOC: Contact post for Bailey Harper.
warmeryouth: (Bailey)
Name: Bailey Austin Harper

Age: 23

Species: Siren, of the Selkie variety.

Background & History:Bailey was born to two siren parents, Amelia and Richard Harper, in the suburbs of New York City, the twin of his sister, Adelaide. His parents divorced when Bailey and Adelaide were five years old; his mother retained full custody of her children, with their father having them on the weekends. Only a year after the divorce, Richard returned to his native England, to the city of Bath. He wrote letters to his children, sent them cards on their birthdays. Apart from that, Bailey and Adelaide hardly ever hear from him, an absence Bailey feels keenly to this day, especially once he heard of his father’s second marriage and family, little more than a year after the divorce.

He grew up in the same apartment his parents first moved into together, sharing a room with his sister. Amelia eventually began dating again, but she swore off marriage, and she never stayed with a man longer than six months. She threw herself into caring after her two children, more than anything else. Adelaide and Bailey grew close as well, becoming each other’s best friends within their close knit family.

She also took care to make sure to teach them of their siren abilities from a young age, teaching them how to transform into their seal-form and how to control their abilities to compel others with their voices; she also put them into voice and swimming lessons to help with their powers. Bailey and his family lived in an area full of fellow Selkies, who came together a couple times a month for potlucks, gatherings, and the like. While Bailey has other, human friends, even one witchy one, his closest friends are all part of his selkie group. They all look out for each other, without any sort of head Siren or matriarch, a concept Bailey doesn’t understand to this day.
